It's a good thing to find common things to base things upon, it's also really good to find new things to learn from different people but if her hobbies drive you nuts then you are probably barking up the wrong subculture ;-)

Sage advice, Tony. Here's what you need to do early on:
1)Check various subcultures for where the hottest members of the attractive sex seem to be, based on the type of people that they seem to draw and the various fashions associated with.
2)Do some research on that subculture. Find out what bands you're supposed to like, dislike, etc.
3)Enter that subculture as a full-fledged member of the community, and stick with it.
4)Get chicks/guys for being the way you are.
I may or may not be defending this because it's what I did back in high school.
